Describe Hideo's personality based on what you know about him so far. How does he show his courage? How does he view his family and his position in it? Use at least one example to support your arguments.

I think that Hideo is allot less worried about whats going on. I think that he is doing very well for traveling on his own for part the journey. I think that Hideo shows courage by taking that job, and going on that long journey with not knowing what could happen.

2. Imagine that you, like the Kawashima family, were suddenly forced to leave your home due to warfare or other tragic circumstances. You only have 10 minutes to throw a few things in your backpack. You are uncertain where you are going and when/if you'll return home, and you know very little about what you'll encounter. What items would YOU bring? Consider some food and non-food items. Be specific and write a short reason (one sentence) with each item to explain why you chose it. Be as realistic as possible. If that happened to me I think that the most important things that I would bring would have to be...

1.) Passport/ Important papers I might need those just in case I need to show indemnification.
2.) At least 2 pairs of clothes If were traveling then I need to change.
3.) Pajamas/ Toothbrush To brush my teeth and so I can sleep better clothes.
4.) Canned foods/Water If were going to be gone we need to eat in that time were gone.
5.) Money We need money for getting something or some where.
6.) Blankets If we don't have a place to stay, we still need to keep our self's warm.

3. Which event do you find most shocking or upsetting so far? Why?

I think that this hole journey that they have to go thought is very shocking and upsetting. But I think that the par t that I really was shocked was when Yoko had to see what would happen to them if they got cot, like when she saw allot of people getting hurt really bad. I think that the hole book starting with the journey allot of things have changed in there lived, like they know that at any moment, what they saw can happen to them.

OP# 1
1.) Describe Yoko's character so far. What kind of person is she? Use at least one example from the text to support your analysis of her character. (3-5 sentences)
I think that when it comes to describe Yoko she is a more worried but, a helpful character in the book. Yoko is also the one that people have trouble getting them to go along with the proble that is going on in there live right now. I think that when her mom yelled out her to get on going in the morning, when they found out they had to go, it really showed what kind of character she begins to act like in this kind of situation.
2. Describe the relationship between Yoko and Ko. Yoko calls her "honorable sister," but also describes her as "bossy." Why? Use an example to support your description of how they feel about each other. (3-5 sentences)
I think that I can really see why Ko was bossy, because Ko neeed to help her mom out, and when you have a sister that just can't really do exactly what you need them to do expestionaly in the kind of situation that there in right now. But them Yoko knows that her sister is only talking, to her that way because of whats going on at that time. So that's why she also says that ko is "honorable sister" because she knows, and understands why her sister was acting that way.3. How does the Kawashima family react to the patients on the train? What does this show you about their character? Use examples to support your statements. (3-5 sentences)I think that she shows alot of moral corige sees those people on the train. I think she is going to be in the book some other time also. I think she trys to not worry the people, but I can see that inside she's really emotionable about the thing that she sees going on the train.

Vocabulary

Extemporaneous:
Done, spoken, performed, without special advance preparation.

Retrospect:
To look back upon; She needs to end up finding a way to live/survive on her, with out her family and, or friends.
Very dangerous things happen where she is from but, she will have to figure out a way to keep her self alive, at least in tell her family returns. She is only twelve-years old on an island with her little brother. In the book a terrible thing happens, her little brother is killed be this group of dogs. But this action that struck her live seems worse at the time but ends up helping her preserver a better Karana. At the ends she makes friends with the dogs and slowly comes to understand that it's better to live in peace than in war.

I think that this book shows moral courage in the way that Karana learns to be brave and make use into her live even thought that she has lost her family and, her brother was killed. I think that if I had to go through something like that I would of never survived. I think that having to lose your family and having to know that your brother died on that island that your at that exact moment. I dont think that I would want to be karana's friend because she is living a pretty hard live, but overall I think that if I was to be her friend it would have payed of, by because she has learnd so much during this experiance in her live.

Vocabulary

Durable:

sturdy and or long lasting.

Lurk:

To move; sneak; lie in wait; creep around.

Egress:

A path or opening for going out; an exit.

Kiosk:

A small structure, often open on one or more sides.

Vague:

Indistinctly felt, perceived, understood.

Reading Response

NAME Beyra Trejo DATE November 6 2007
TITLE Becoming Naomi Leon
TIME HOURS 2-3
AUTHOR Pam Munoz
PAGES 1-250
TOTAL PAGES THIS WEEK 258
RESPONSE: Becoming Naomi Leon

Reading Response

This book is based on a girl named Naomi Leon and she has a little brother named Owen. It also makes me sad knowing that Skyla only wants to take Naomi and not Owen just because he looks different, but he turnes out to very smart, Owen has one leg that's shorter than the other.

It also makes me sad that, in the book she ends buying and giving alot of love and atintion to Naomi and not Owen, but one day I thought was really mean of her to was, she got a whole bunch of clothes to Naomi and she bought a bike for Owen, and on the bike she placed a piece of wood on one pedel as if she didn't care.

I think that a person that I would really want to get to know is Naomi because I would like to see what see would of done if she was forced to move to Las Vegas with her alcoholic mom and her no good boyfriend? The book also really got me thinking about, like what if I had to prevent something like that from happening to my live. I think it was nice to she Naomi face that problem and have her "Becoming Naomi Leon" Overall I really injoyed reading this book and I like that I would like to read it again or recommed it to someone else.

Vocabulary

Vaguely: Not clearly or explicitly stated or expressed in what your saying.

Gleam: A brief beam or flash of light.

Incomprehensible: Impossible to understand or comprehend.

Cathoist - To raise or heave, lift

Page 23 - Lina laughed, hoisted her up, and danced with her around the shop.astrophe: A sudden violent change in the earth's surface.

Methodically - Characterized habits or behavior.

page 58 - Every day a team of people methodically sorted through the trash heaps in search of anything that might be at all useful.

Reading Response

NAME Beyra Trejo DATE October 31 Halloween

TITLE The City Of Ember TIME HOURS 2-3
AUTHOR Jeanne DuPrau PAGES 1-258
TOTAL PAGES THIS WEEK 258
RESPONSE: The City OF Ember

Reading Response

The book that I’m reading is called “The City Of Ember” written by Jeanne DuPrau. This book gave me interest in reading because of the description in the back and because of the way the title is written. The title says THE CITY OF and at the bottom you see a light bulb that has the wires say EMBER, and I thought that, that was creative. The two main characters are Lina Mayfleet a girl who really wants to be a messenger at the age of twelve, because that’s the age that people started working at in the city of Ember. That’s the age that kids that are twelve go to the last day of school and get assigned a job. But instead Lina comes to school getting the job of a Pipe works Laborer. Working under ground tunnels. The other main character is Doon Harrow and he got the job as a messenger when he really wanted the job of a Pipe works Laborer. So he asks Lina to trade with him so he gets to make ideas in how to fix the generator, which what brings light to the city. But now the lights are flickering and something fishy is going on with the mayor!?

After Doon and Lina traded jobs they headed home. Doon lived in an apartment with his grandma and his baby sister Poppy. They had a neighbor that kind of watched over his Grandma and a Poppy now that he had to start working. The City Of Ember is the city in which there is told that there was a “Chef Builder” was assigned to build the city for at least 200-220 years ago. They were also to leave “Instructions”!? It is told that the chef had to find some one that would keep the secret all these years in tell that time was right for people to start knowing what really happened.

In the book Doon and Lina end up finding out what really has been going on with the Mayor and “The City Underground”!? I was so into the book when Doon and Lina started finding clues about where they really come from? And were? When? This city was built? The book ends up with Doon and Lina finding out that The City Of Ember is a underground city. They know that because Doon’s Grandma was looking for something but didn’t know what? But they find Poppy chewing on a piece of paper (The Instructions) they put it together and from then on they tried to get out of The City Of Ember.

And that the Mayor has been hiding various source full stuff from the people of Ember, knowing that there needs to live are very low. The story ends with them finding a room full of boats and candles as well as matches, that helped get around the city in the dark. Then they go through a whole journey finding there way to this so called “New City” so they find it and when they found the city they wrap the instructions in a rock and the dropped it down a hole and a few minutes later they here it, and hope someone finds it and leads the rest of the citizens of Ember here to the City Of Sparks.

I think that if I were to be someone’s friend in the book it would have been Doon's friend because he bascily discovered what had happened to the city of Ember. It would have been fun if I were to be his friend because he had a big and fun intventure finding out a whole new city, that has light a certain supplies we need in order to live. This book always kept me wondering where they were! And would have never guessed that they were living underground.

The Wave

1. “For the rest of your lives….never, ever, allow a group’s will to usurp your individual rights.” I think that this quote means that you should always be your self. I think that it also means don’t let anyone or anything keep you from your individual rights.

I think that maybe in the future there is going events like The Wave that I might want be tempted to join it if people/friends are in it. But if it turns out that it’s taking my individuality away then that is when I would use this quote “For the rest of your lives….never, ever, allow a group’s will to usurp your individual rights.” Things and events will come up and sometimes you well just have to stand up for your self and never let someone take away you individual rights.

2 Analyzing Robert: I think that Robert has changed according to this book because of The Wave. On the last page shows that he Robert had some good things that happened to him during The Wave. Like in the last page where Mr. Ross says “You know, Robert,” he said, trying to cheer him up, “you look good in a tie and jacket. You ought to wear them more often.” Through his tears, Robert managed a smile. “Thanks Mr. Ross.”

I think that this line that Mr. Ross says to Robert shows that there is some positivity in joining The Wave. There it tells us not necessarily that he looks good in a tie and jacket but it also tells us that The Wave doesn’t just have a bad reason for which it’s there. There’s another line were Ben says poor Robert he’s the only one who really lost something in The Wave. I think that at the last page tells us that he won’t be the exactly the same like he was from the start of the book. the Wave had some positive effects on Robert and I think that he will become more confident in live.

3 Fascism: a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.

A. What elements of fascism do you see in the Wave? There are lots of examples that The Wave gives to show that there is Fascism going on. I think that one example is when some kids starting to beat up this Jewish kid for not joining The Wave and it’s weird how it turns out they are beating someone that is Jewish. I also think that this book shows racism (Fascism).

B. What other historical movements can you think of that have elements of fascism? (Sadly, there are many possible examples here.) Find at least one historical example, and explain how it is fascist. I think that one Historical Event is the Civil Rights. There was a lot of Fascism at those times where people were separated because of the way they looked. People didn't understand that we are all human beings no matter what color we are or where we come from. Back then there was slavery there is still some going on. People were being treated differently because of there racism and that was basically Fascism.

“Avoiding Mob Mentality: A Practical Guide by A Middle Student, for Other Middle School Students.”

I think that people should always remind each other how they are as a person. People should just be there selfs. A way that you can stay out of things like what happened in The Wave is, one way is always tell your self whats the right thing to do and always predict what's going to happen if you do or don't do it. Remember with more things that you put in your live comes more responsibility that you need to take control because if you lose control you will be in the situation that Robert and other characters had to go through in the book The Wave. I think that you well need to keep realizing that events that may come up in like don't suit everyone and you have to see what you can keep up with and what you can not keep up with in live.

Name:Beyra Trejo
Project Reflection
Project Tittle: Family History Project (FHP)
Class: Humanities Dates: September 24 – October 17

PURPOSE
In this section, explain what you were supposed to learn and what you were supposed to do.

Sentence Starters
The purpose of this project was to learn about…
In order to learn about _________________, we had to create/perform/ write/etc…

The purpose of This Project was to learn how to be a Historian. You also learn more about your family during this project. During this project you learn and discover things that you didn't know about. You learn how to research a lot better about history. I think that I could have had a better way of searching about my theme in this project. There was a certain amount of steps that you had to take during this project and if you didn't do them or turned them in late it would differently reflect on how your scrap book came out. We also had to do a interview in this project. I thought that that was the fun part of the project.

WHAT I LEARNED
In this section, tell what information or skills you learned or improved.

Sentence Starters
I learned about…
I explored the concept of …
In this project, I learned how to…. I learned a lot about my family, somethings I had no Idea my parents and grandparents had experienced. I learned that when you do your work it heps if you proof read my work. I also learned that when you turn in stuff late or don't get done on time you well end up with a lot more work to do and you scrap book won't turn out as you planed. Some skills that I learned during this project was to look and research information for a certain history event.

REFLECTION
In this section, reflect on your experience. I feel like I could have done better on this project had more artifact that would have told me a little bit more about this event. What document, picture, or link will you have for this project?

PICTURES
PERSONALL NARRATIVE
HISTORICAL NARRATIVE
SCRAP BOOK PICTURES
A WEB SITE I USED (LINK)

1. In the book The Wave Ben is getting conserned about how The Wave is becoming into now the students aren't being there self one is the same anymore now they are just like one they are just a big group of people combind into one. Now Ben is asking Robert to be his Body Guard

2. "Come on, Laurie, the only reason you're against The Wave is because it means you're not a princess anymore." This is the sentence that stood out to me because I thought it was funny and I seen that kind of thing happen in movies.

3. I think that when people were starting to cut off their learning by missing classes. Things don't turn out how they are suppose to I mean like things getting "Out Of Control" At the Pep rally that The Wave had gotten a little "Out Of Control" and that when I thought people really wanted to be in it that, that is why things, turned out that way.

2. The sentence that stood out to me was "She Didn't Want To Start The Fight With David Over Such Petty Things" That stood out to me because I can really I can really see that see likes him and you can get a better sence of the characters in the book.

3. I think that The Wave started to spread into the the whole school is because when so the motto, people want to start doing it to so they can be apart of what is going on in the school. How people got to applied to The Wave Motto into their lives. Now even Robert Billings is sitting with the rest of them!

2. The sentence that really stood out to me was "Strength Through Discipline" that I put thought into i thought that it was something that I have heird of but didn't really get that before, but in the first page of chapter 5 explained it and it really stands out ot you because it's in capital letters.
That sentence "Strength Through Discipline" showed a sense of power and spirit.

3. My question is do you think that The Wave is a good idea to start or a not so good idea to start?

The Wave
By: Todd Strasser
A. The Wave Takes place in California in Gordon High School 1969.
B. I think that one of the clues that we got in pages 1-28 are when the author describes how,in this one room there was alot of typewriters. It made me think of a computer lab but instead of computers they used typewriters. Another clue that the author gives use in that book is when the character Mr.Ross sets up a "Film Projector" and now the teachers save there work on the computer and show it on a screen.

"It is the third time this semester he'd talked to them about messy homework"
2. That is one of the sentences that stood out to me because I kind of can picture in my head what kind of class this is. I can see that this class doesn't really care about there homework and how neat it is after being told the class many time about their homwork being neat during that semester.

3. My Question is what Mr.Ross has in mind in doing with the experiment he's talking about doing. I can see that the class wasn't so thrilled with the video he showed them so I wonder what the class is going to think about the experimant he's planing to do.

Betty Ann

1. I think that the moment Margie called Betty Ann's house it really made a difference because Betty Ann couldn't take it all that she was doing and she told that's enough!

3.I think the moral of the story is about people just like us that can have feeling and if we get caried away we can hurt then and it can make a big difference in

there life.

7th Grade

One of my favorite sentences that stood out to me was

" all of abstain his bright red cheeks of embracement, suddenly turned into a bocce of flowers''

I think that, that sentence can relate to alot of us. His parents leaved in Austin, Texas. Armpit knows that if he wants to avoid a life in jail, he's going to have do his best to not get in so much trouble when he returns and hopefully finish high school and stays away from getting into trouble! Things are going well for Armpit and he feels like he's finally getting back on the right track. Until his old friend X-Ray happens to show up with a he seem to have a good idea in how to get-rich-quick scam that supposedly can't go wrong. The plan involves Armpit giving up some money to buy tickets for Karia DeLeon's concert ''A very famous singer'' so they can sell the tickets for more than double price. Armpit goes along with the plan. Eventually the majority of the tickets are sold and Armpit finds himself using the last pair to go to the show himself and accompanied by his ten year-old neighbor. X-Ray decides to sell the last remaining tickets and replace them with counterfeit ones without telling his partner Armpit.
